Waukesha North "Northstar" Marching Band
Waukesha, WI
The Waukesha North “Northstar” Marching Band is pleased to present their 2013 program entitled “Be You”. The field show production explores the journey from conformity to individuality through the concept of color psychology in the movement and music of Clint Mansell, Imogen Heap, Bjork, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart & Carol Brittin Chambers.
As the citizens come forward, the movement and music resembles a time where there is happiness in ignorance, as a repressed society comes out from behind the darkness believing themselves to have strength and beauty in being united as one movement. Using blue, purple and yellow for the focused colors, the band moves from a society that is unison in thought, slowly unveiling and revealing individual characteristics. Eventually, society is left in dissonance as the tension between conformity and individuality builds as more citizens become more courageous and stand up for free will. By the end of the production, all of the different groups reach a common understanding, allowing harmony and counter melody to run concurrent through the music and in society.
The Northstars were recently awarded 1st Place with a 90.8 at the WSMA State Championships, including Caption Awards in Music, Percussion, Colorguard and Visual (Tie).
