Varicose veins is a common condition that happens when people get older. It can be unattractive but potentially, it can turn infectious and cause a wide wealth of health problems. The mechanism how varicose veins happen is very interesting and varied. Here are the possible causes of varicose veins.

The veins in our body is responsible for returning blood back to the heart so that it can be re-circulated and re-oxygenated back in our the system. The mechanism how varicose happens is when the valves which stop blood from going backwards fail. One the valves fail, the blood has a hard time re-circulating and as a result, blood will pool in the vein causing an appearance called spider veins. The causes of varicose veins where the valves fail can be due to: genetic weakness in the valves, pregnancy, obesity, straining, infection, age, disease and various other conditions.

Genetic weakness in the valves

In certain groups of population, there is a genetic predisposition where the valves in the veins are weak. Some people who have genetic weakness in the valves usually suffer from genetic disorders such as Marfan’s syndrome and Osteogenesis Imperfecta where the connective tissues are weak or inflamed.

Also, if one of your family member has varicose veins, than the chances of you having varicose veins is high too. In sexes, females are more prone to varicose veins than men.

Pregnancy

When women are pregnant, there is a sudden change in hormones in which the connective tissue and joints become more loose and stretched. This is done so it allows the womb to expand and also to allow an easier pregnancy so that the child can exit smoothly. Unfortunately as a result, the blood vessels will dilate also which makes the valves in the vein work inefficiently. The result is varicose veins.

Infection

If an infection occurs along the limb, the veins may be affected. When an infection occurs, the valves work inefficiently or even stop working. The infection may also cause sclerosis or hardening of the veins which results in varicose veins.

Trauma

One of the most common causes of varicose veins is trauma to the vein. When you get trauma to the vein, the valves and walls of the veins can get damaged which causes scarring and thickening of the vein. This makes the vein have problems circulating blood back to the heart which makes the blood vessel dilate and expand.

Age

Varicose veins tend to develop in peop
