PASSION HAS TAKEN HER FAR . .
IT does not matter where you come from, because if you have the passion and drive for what you do you will go very far. Those are the words of Nozie Nofeleti -Sandi, 30, who lives in Motherwell NU13.
She started her career singing gospel in Motherwell choirs, but music was not her only passion. Nofeleti -Sandi studied at the University of the Witwatersrand’s music school, but changed to International Relations.
“I was really hands on. I did everything while I was studying,” she said.
“I did voice overs at Radio Active Productions. My first big break came when I went to audition for a musical called Mfowethu by Gibson Kente and I got the part,” Nofeleti -Sandi said. She stayed until the end of the run after six months, then auditioned for Joyous Celebration where she lasted a few weeks before joining SABC Choristers.
“Singing has always been part of me, especially gospel, but my singing career did not last long because I had to go back to university to finish my degree in international relations.
“After that I got an opportunity to work in Beijing for an international Beverage company as a brand activator working with big brands like Johnnie Walker, Heineken and Smirnoff.”
While there she organised events for visitors from Africa.
“That is when the love and passion for organising events grew. I had to come back to SA to settle down and start a family. I rested for a year and then started working at Looks International, Port Elizabeth.
“I travelled the whole of the Eastern Cape scouting promoters, training them and managing campaigns ,” Nofeleti -Sandi said.
Because she had already been in the entertainment industry, she also started managing a few artists from Motherwell, and did personal and corporate marketing.
Her new work involves a charity she recently started where she aims to give back to the community.
“I came back to Port Elizabeth and started doing charity work with Phila Nathi soup kitchen and organising events and campains that focused on addressing social issues by bringing information and services closer to the people through partnerships and working closely with the community, NGO's, Government and the business community. I have recently adopted two primary schools and one high school from Motherwell.
“I really want to make a difference in these kids’ lives. I want to encourage the culture of reading by donating libraries, arts equipment and bring back the love for sports in schools ,proper grounds for them, and I would like to also have extra classes where those that have graduated or still studying at universities can get an opportunity to give back by donating there time teaching extra at these schools.”
