Nicholas Szakal

Athens, GA

My name is Nicholas Tamas Szakal (the guy in the pink robe) and I was born on March 28, 1994 in Lexington, Kentucky. I luckily have two loving parents, and I am the oldest out of four children. When I was three my dad finished his residency and my family moved to the city of Warner Robins where he bought a medical practice and the story of my life begins.

Now that that boring stuff is out of the way lets get a few things straight- yes, as you can tell by my writing, I am indeed very awkward in almost every aspect of myself. I am 6'4 and lanky, I seem to talk in roundabout sentences, and I can't seem to be able to get though what I want to convey to others.

I maintained a relatively good existence in all of my grade school days. Other than being a really really bratty kid, I was quiet and minded my own business most days. I just didn't know how to talk to others that well. Not to say I didn't have plenty of friends, I just didn't really get the whole "talking to new people" thing. I had a realitively uneventful primarly and middle school life, but it wasn't until was was 14, 10th grade, that I was able to get over this habit. I got into a good group of friends that helped me learn how to talk to others and gain some confidence in the odd way I speak. Those people helped me get through high school and I can never repay them for what they've done. Their kindness also helped me get to the University of Georgia through their encouragement to keep my grades high and to challenge myself academically.

Social issues aside, I went to a public school until freshman year of high school where I transferred to a private school. During the summers, I worked as an assistant at my father's practice and I have taken up several hobbies. Traveling to cool places, scuba diving, skiing, and competitive soccer all make up what I love and have fun doing. The loving of travel is something i picked up from my parents as we have the privilege of being able to vacation out of the country from time to time. This hobby has also influenced my life in that it led to my parents decision to adopt my youngest sister from Russia; making an impact on my life that I will never forget.

I still have a lot of my life ahead of me; I am 18 years old after all. I pray my awkward lank carries me down the right path or at least takes me down one as good as the one I've had so far.
