Nthayi aka DJ Thai

What do you do?

I’m a sound designer and a mix-master, I love ‘imagineering’, captivating and entertaining an audience through musical textures and beats. In short... I create audio landscapes, taking people on a journey into unchartered audible territories.

How long have you been doing it?

I’ve been djing since I was 15, from rocking family get togethers with my Jackson Brothers collection to playing in Jo’burg’s and Dubai’s coolest hippest Clubs, lounges and bars.

Who inspires you?

Masters at Work, Charles Webster, Jimpster, Claude Challe, Dennis Ferrer, Stephane Pompougnac and anyone who enphasis’s quality and style.

What style do you play?

I can play many styles, from Jazz, Soul, Disco, Funk Hip Hop & RnB and Latin lounge flavours to upbeat Soulful/Afro, Deep and Electro House. I believe a sign of a good Dj is versatility with an overall astounding emphasis on quality. I can play uplifting house music to a room full of party people or I can set the right mood and ambiance in a bar or lounge full of sophisticated lounge lizards.

Tell us why we should book you?

I know how to read the crowd and create ambiance. For me it's always about the music, and I think that rubs off in my sets and generates a special energy in any venue I play. I'm constantly searching for new, fresh types of sounds and tracks. I don't like to follow the mainstream charts, instead you'll find me looking through the back isles and shelves at a record store for those rare, classic sounding gems - in this way, I like making people come up to me during my set asking me the names of tracks I'm playing. I'm also a team player and love working in a friendly environment.
