Nathan Phillips served as Chief Information Officer at Marylhurst University (2016-2018) and at the American College of Healthcare Sciences (2018-2024). Most recently, he has been teaching and consulting through his business College Technology Services while he seeks his next full-time role.

He possesses extensive expertise in digital transformation, IT modernization, change management, and strategic innovation. And, Dr. Phillips has a proven track record of implementing scalable solutions, enhancing cybersecurity, and driving measurable business impact.

In addition to being a CIO, he has over ten years of additional management experience. At Apple Inc., he was a lead trainer and led a worldwide train-the-trainer program. Dr. Phillips has held faculty positions at world-leading universities, including the University of Hong Kong, Keio University, the University of California at San Diego, and the University of Portland. As an educator, he has delivered over 10,800 hours of classroom, workshop, and individual training to over 6,100 participants.

Dr. Phillips earned a Ph.D. from UCSD, dual Master’s degrees at Johns Hopkins, and a Bachelor’s at Northwestern University. Before his career in information technology management, Dr. Phillips did research in music technology, specializing in live digital signal processing of sound.

Dr. Phillips served as co-leader of the CIO group of the Oregon Alliance for Independent Colleges and Universities, co-led the Small College Community Group with Educause for five years, and served as faculty secretary for three years at Marylhurst University.

Despite a busy schedule, he finds time to perform on the viola (he used to play professionally in the Hong Kong Sinfonietta), read, garden, ski, and cook. He has been working on making the perfect bananas foster for over 20 years. Nathan loves to travel and has visited all 50 States, seven countries, and lived in Asia for five years.
