After I had recited the Hippocratic oath in 1961 during a solemn ceremony at the University of Leiden in Holland, my professor of psychiatry, Dr. Eugene EE Carp, offered me a position at his psychiatric clinic in Oegstgeest. I declined respectfully this great honor. It was one of the many choices I subsequently had to make in my life.
