In Beechwood School K-8 in IB STEM lab our main focus is our 20% project. This is a project that focuses on a student's hobby or career choice (that the student picks) that they want to learn about. In my opinion the twenty percent project is a
great way for the students to have fun because they are learning what they actually want to know. It can also help because maybe for example you wanted to be an engineer you can already have a head start. Or if you decided that you are not interested about it anymore than it better now than when you're in collage or something.We also every once in a while have mini projects that help us learn new things in technology which is also sometimes mixed with science and math. Most of these projects include essays, keynotes, or pictures about something or
someone.

In IB STEM we also have make stuff Mondays, when you and five other people get into a team of six and you are assigned to do a task. Before the end of the period we compete with other teams in are class and the winner goes to technology class during lunch and competes with the winners in other periods. So far my favorite will have to be Ball Bungee. The task was to figure out how many rubber bands that you can use when tied around a baseball while bungee jumping off a certain distance. To figure out this we used the math equation to find the slope and teamwork which is not always easy. With these projects it teaches us the importance of teamwork, math, sciennce, and technology in school and our daily lives.

This is an IB class because it teaches us how to be an IB student. An IB student is supposed to know the five characteristics. But we mostly focus in Human Ingenity.We learn this by doing projects about examples of famous inventors or by answering questions about ourselves. Being an IB student is also important because it helps us on later in life because part of being an IB student is to be corporative,determined, and focused. These can help you when you need to work in a group,doing your job, and following your dreams. With these things you will be able to do more things than most people even become known world wide or better. It all starts by being an IB student.
