Nurse in New York

Hi, I'm Nurse Nelle! I started college pursuing Pharmacy but after an internship I decided it wasn't for me. I switched my majors and colleges and I received my BSN in 2013 and worked in a CVICU straight out of school. To help facilitate that transition, I did a junior preceptorship in the ICU at a small community hospital during nursing school, and was a student nurse intern in the CVICU my senior year. That opened up an opportunity to learn the staff, unit and get myself comfortable with taking care of patients with multiple comorbidities, vasopressors, swan ganz catheters/central lines, ECMO, heart transplants and LVAD patients.

__________

I had about 1.5 years of CVICU experience when I applied to CRNA school. By the time I started I had almost 3 years of experience. In the meantime I took advantage of my hospitals tuition reimbursement program and took 12+ credits of DNP requirements prior to starting the program the subsequent year. I also dabbled in "local" travel nursing where I took a per diem position in a smaller Open Heart Unit/CVICU & I currently work there. I also work for a pharmaceutical company per diem educating patients on how to inject Copaxone, a medication for Multiple Sclerosis.

__________

I am a 2nd year DNP student, finishing my 4th semester. (4 out of 9, we go straight through!) Our program is somewhat front loaded, so I just started clinicals this summer. For the next 5 semesters, I'll have clinical 4 days a week, along with principles of anesthesia 3-7, and crisis management.

__________

In the little free time that I have, I enjoy running, singing & traveling. Throughout my first few semesters I've been to LA, ATL, Miami x 4, NYC, DC, MD, Coachella, Punta Cana, Bahamas & Paris!

__________

I also enjoy advocating for my future profession and I've attended my state association spring meeting and the AANA Mid Assembly in DC where I met and talked to congressmen! I hope to go to the AANA meeting in September in Seattle.

UPDATE: The AANA Annual Congress was amazing!!!
