Daniel Nyoung Edem, born in October 1995 in Eyoko village, Udung Uko Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, is a Nigerian journalist, media strategist, security consultant, and entrepreneur. He began his early education at Methodist Primary Schools in Eyosung and Oruko before moving to Limbe, Cameroon for quality primary education as he combines French and English in learning. Upon his return to Nigeria in 2007, he attended Ubodung Community Secondary School, Oruko, where he completed his Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (SSCE).
In 2011, Daniel scored 239 in his first Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam but missed the university post-UTME. Undeterred, he wrote JAMB again in 2012, scoring 222 and achieving a remarkable 340 in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) post-UTME—the highest score recorded that year with an outstanding 100/100 in the Use of English. He earned admission on the merit list to study Mass Communication at UNN.
During his time at the university, Daniel became actively involved in student leadership. He served as Class Rep in his first year and was later elected Secretary General of the Faculty of Arts, balancing academic responsibilities with unionism.
Daniel began his media career with an internship at Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC) in Uyo in 2016. He continued at the *Daily Sun* newspaper in 2017, working as a reporter, newscaster, and media strategist. In 2023, he relocated to Lagos to join a skincare company before transferring briefly to Abuja. Shortly after, he joined Supreme Command Printing Press in Wuse, Zone 4, as Media Manager.
His breakthrough came when he was recruited by Mrs. Clara Chime, ex-wife of former Enugu State Governor Sullivan Chime, to work with her clothing line. He was later integrated into Dadavine Oil and Gas Consortium by Mr. Joseph Ciroma Almajiri, her new husband. His media and operational skills led to his recruitment by Westminster Security Solutions Nigeria Ltd. as Media Manager. Upon the departure of the company’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), Daniel was promoted to CSO while retaining his media role—a rare dual responsibility in the corporate world.
After a successful tenure, Daniel transitioned into entrepreneurship by founding Sterling Guardlite Comm., a private security operations company based in Apo, Abuja. Today, he oversees more than 100 security guards and administrative staff, driving innovation and professionalism in private security services.
Daniel Nyoung Edem continues to make strides in the security and communications industries, combining leadership, media expertise, and operational excellence.
He was a front man in the EndBadGovernance protest that took place in 2024 in Nigeria and was arrested and detained at SARS in Asokoro for daring to challenge police officers who were shooting at defenceless protesters. On the intervention of Omoyele Sowore, he was released about 20 hours after being detained.
