Nyree Mason
Artist in Canberra, Australia
Nyree is a Canberra-based artist who had focussed her creativity on textile-based crafts for most of her life. Recently she discovered a love of acrylic and mixed-media painting and has devoted herself to participating in the arts community ever since.
She grew up in a household filled with original works of art and craft, most of which were created by her amazingly talented family. Because of this, she has always appreciated the value of art and expressing oneself creatively. Nyree firmly believes that a house isn’t a home unless it has art.
Nyree’s inspiration is often found in the natural environment, with flowers and animals prominent in her work. Influenced by her craft background, she enjoys the challenge of depicting her subjects in novel artistic and creative ways using mixed media. Nyree predominantly uses acrylics and texture mediums to bring her creations to life, but also likes to explore the use of other media such as pastel, pen and ink.
Nyree is a member of the Artists Society of Canberra (ASOC) and the Queanbeyan Art Society (QAS), and frequently exhibits with these groups. In 2014 she was awarded two prizes at the monthly QAS exhibitions:
* 2nd Prize, Acrylics, Queanbeyan Leagues Club Exhibition, 2014 (for "Banksia Serrata").
* 1st Prize, Animal Portraiture, “Drawings, Portraits and Miniatures” Exhibition, 2014 (for "Chevy").
* 1st Prize, Pastels, Queanbeyan City Council Exhibition, 2015 (for "Meerkat").
