Obituary Today is a social service initiative specially undertaken to benefit the grieving family of a diseased loved one. These are invariably under very heavy pressure of a multitude of activities attendant on such an important circumstance in their midst. Yet, they have to find the time and hard cash to release an ad in a newspaper.

Whether the newspaper is in the same city or a distant one to which the deceased belonged, finding the relevant publications, creating the ad, getting it across along with the requisite payment -- which can only be decided after the newspaper sees the material -- is tantamount to additional harassment to the already grieving kith and kin. Yet, in order to let far-flung friends, relatives and admirers of the loved one know at the earliest, there has been no alternative.

Now there is. For the first time in India, the family can simply sit around their home laptops, create an obituary and just post it -- free of charge -- at any time convenient to them. That, in essence, is the purpose of this all-new platform.
