Ocean Pleasant

Founding Editor-in-Chief of REAL Magazine, the new national youth culture publication. My mission is to make social activism in millennial culture as effortless as possible, while raising awareness for issues that rarely receive mainstream coverage; we utilize celebrity culture to make an even larger impact: from Richard Branson to Alicia Keys, we cover everything from HIV/AIDS to net neutrality.
My desire to change the way media impacts our culture is radically fueled by the impact mainstream media has had on me, personally. I want young women to understand that they can be more than prom dresses, Fall fashion, and celebrity gossip.
Since 2011, I have been the Global Youth Editor for Origin Magazine, also working in production for Mantra Yoga Health and Thrive Magazine.
In 2012, I founded The Hope Photo Project, working to empower young women in third world countries through photography. The Asha Project: Voices of India, is now being showcased. The second edition in this international series was curated in Mathare slum outside Nairobi, Kenya, titled The Tumaini Project: Voices of Mathare. By giving cameras to young girls, this project (each edition is the translation of the word "Hope") provides a platform for empowerment while raising awareness and financial aid for youth organizations around the globe.
I am a Youth Ambassador for the Global Youth Peace Summit, and was selected to participate in the scouting trip to lay foundations for the Kenya Summit, happening next year.
You can catch me giving a talk at TedXVail this January, as well as some cool surpises in 2015.
