Octavia Hooks

My name is Octavia Hooks.

My natural hair journey began after reading the autobiography of Malcolm X, by Alex Haley. The book inspired me to embrace who I am appreciate how I look like and empowered to actualize my dreams.

For 10 years, I wore sculpted braids and twists. I found it thrilling to wear my hair in such expressive natural hairstyles. However for me, there was one downside to wearing braids and twists , I hated the "three day take down process". I would wear hats and scarfs to conceal my undone appearance. Oh, I hated the take down process until one day it hit me; I decided to change my look.

Regrettably, I pearmed over 10 years of natural hair growth. My newly permed hair was long, healthy, and it flowed like never before. I wore my permed hair for 6 months. But after 6 months, my hair began to break off and came out in clups with a simple touch. I opted for a comb twist hairstyle, complete with a tapered fade to the back of my neck.

During that time, I received tickets to an AIvin Ailey theater performance. which sparked within me the same feelings as the Malcom X biography from years previous. That very night, I decied to embrace my freedom and confirmed my decision to lock my hair. Nine years later, I give you Octavia's Natural Hair Care Exprience. Tomday, I am a licensed Barber, Certified Lock Stylish and Certified Sisterlock consultant.
