Greetings and welcome to my about.me page.

I would describe myself as a born again academic having worked in industry for many years following my undergraduate. My professional background is in software engineering and IT systems design, imprinted from a life of servitude in such companies as Lotus, IBM, and ModusLink.

I changed career direction in 2009 with a move into academia where I now enjoy the challenge of lecturing at 3rd level and pursing my research interests. I am currently lecturing in Computing at the Institute of Technology Carlow, and prior to this at the Institute of Technology Tallaght, the National College of Ireland in Dublin and the University of Limerick.

My academic qualifications include a BSc from University College Dublin, an MBA from Dublin City University, a PhD from the University of Limerick.

My research interests are broad and reflect the growing interconnectedness of technology and people. My expertise is in the area of software engineering, in particular within regulated contexts and especially the medical devices domain. The following areas (in no particular order) are where some of my interests lie:

- Regulated Software development

- The Internet of Things

- Artificial Intelligence

- Assisted living technology

- Connected Health

- Bio-medical engineering
