Alleck Olerud

My Name is Alleck Olerud and I am from Westby, WI. I love to watch baseball and football. I am a huge Tennesse Titans fan. I spent some time in Nashville this year, and I can't wait to go back.

I have attended Winona State University for the past three and a half years. Before I began my journey at Winona I was going to Western Tech School in LaCrosse. I would describe myself as hard working, and easy to get along with. I love to start up conversations with anyone, and hear about their lives. I would say the fact that I can talk to just about anyone is one of my biggest strengths. Another one of my strengths would be my determination to complete any task given to me. I enjoy feeling accomplished after I have completed something. A weakness I have is getting side tracked at times. I really try to complete assignments on a timely manner, but I find myself doing something other than the assignment at times.
Teaching was an occupation which I have grown up with. My mom and step-dad are both teachers, and I always enjoyed hearing some of the stories they would talk about. They would share how rewarding it was to see their students accomplish something the student didn’t think they would be able to finish. While I was thinking about becoming a teacher, I was immediately drawn to the business education field. Along with my mom and step dad being teachers, my dad ran his own business. I often times found myself helping him with anything he needed. Whether it be typing, or trying to market my dad’s company, I truly enjoyed doing it. Throughout my career at Winona State, I was involved with a number of field experience opportunities. Every time I would be involved in field experience, I found many things rewarding.
My teaching philosophy revolves around being a mentor and someone for all students to look up to. Yes, teachers are meant to educate, but they should also be someone any student can ask for help. I really believe a teacher should enjoy what they are doing every day. It’s easy to tell when a teacher doesn’t care to be in the classroom, and it affects the students in a negative way. If a teacher isn’t enjoying what they are doing, they should not be a teacher in the first place.
