Oliver Knabb
Hello! My name is Oliver Knabb and I am a freshman at The Ohio State University
After taking my StrengthsQuest I have found that my strengths include: Strategic, maximizer, communication, activator, and learner.
- I am not surprised I had strategic as a top trait, as I like to plan things out well ahead of time and figure out how to approach and prepare for a situation in the best way such as an upcoming exam or swim meet. I also am not surprised communication is listed as a trait since I love to socialize and can always find time to strike have a conversation and learn something new about someone. People often ask how I know so many people all around, and it is simply because meeting new people is something I find so enjoyable!
From the assignment "Letter to Myself," we were asked to say how we got to OSU, why we chose it, and what we want to learn.I realized some key things I hope to accomplish during my tenure here at OSU through this assignment as well.
- First off, I chose OSU because of the balance of academics and athletics. It offered the best combination of both and just could not turn an offer like this down! I first looked at this university through contacting the coach here, Bill Wadley and learning about the numerous opportunities as a student-athlete. I want to learn how to improve the overall health of athletes as well as the world, so that is why I am studying to be a health and nutrition major. Furthermore, I would like to maintain a high grade point average while here to prove to myself that balancing college and athletics is possible to everyone.
The other assignment I chose to talk about are my experiences with the First Year Success Series during survey class. The FYSS are one hour sessions for freshman to educate students on possible issues such as sex, alcohol, and learning how to adjust to college.
Through these success series I learned a series of lessons such as what consent means. Consent is when two people who are mutually attracted to each other agree to partake in sexual acts, and both are able to give consent only if they are not too intoxicated. I found this very helpful to freshman since many people are intoxicated at parties with members of the opposite sex, and consent is something that can often be over-looked.
