Oliver Whittaker
Bristol, England, United Kingdom
My name is Oliver Whittaker, I’m currently based in Bristol working as a Design Engineer for Dyson.
I studied Industrial Design at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) for four years and graduated at the end of 2013.
During my degree course I have studied a vast range of interesting subjects, from building 3D printers, to material research and sustainability.
After my first year and a half of studying at RMIT, I was awarded a scholarship to study for a year at Ankara’s Middle Eastern University of Technology (METU) in Turkey.
METU gave me an interesting perspective on design as its approach was quite different to that taken by RMIT. METU had much closer ties with industry leaders and the studios were run with strict briefs and were supervised and critiqued by design professionals. While in Turkey I worked with Profilo, a subsidiary of Bosch, which ran a studio project re-designing traditional house hold kitchen products.
Since returning to Melbourne, I have been involved in a studio run by Luca Abate in correlation with Charlwood Design. The studio brief was to design a remote patient monitoring device. Since this studio I have developed an interest in medical engineering and design projects.
My major project in my final year has been to re-design the traditional medical stretcher to better suit the needs of first responders.
This is a site that shows some of my projects over the last few years.
