Oliver Blond is credited with helping bring Roedean School forward into modern times, while also growing its student population and credibility as a top-performing school. Enrolment stood at just 350 students when Blond took the reins over 10 years ago. Since then, his leadership has enabled the school to double the number of enrolled pupils to more than 700, helping to builds Roedean reputation as an empowering boarding school and institution dedicated to helping students achieve independence and success in the real world.
Blond also helped the school raise its overall achievement records when it comes to academics. Roedean succeeded with its highest GCSE and A Level results on record in 2022, and in previous years, while also earning a rating of “excellent” with regard its ISI inspection. Supporting these improvements were investments in the school’s infrastructure, which Blond believed to be essential to cultivating the student experience and academic successes. To this end, the school’s theatre and boarding houses were fully refurbished, modernizing everything from fixtures to features. Blond also spearheaded plans to continue updating Roedean’s campus including upgrades to sports, STEM, and arts facilities. He has also been a proponent of student wellness, encouraging programmes that demonstrate practical life skills including experiences in difficult social situations and helping the students achieve better balance with their screen time through digital detoxes.
Oliver Blond served has headmaster of Roedean School for 10 years, including those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet under his leadership, the school continued to flourish, improve and grow. Before joining Roedean, Blond was the Headmaster at Henrietta Barnett School, a top-performing grammar school which achieved the status of Sunday Times School of the Year under his leadership. He also has experience serving as deputy head at North London Collegiate School.
