Oliver Starr is an author, conservationist, entrepreneur, executive coach, and longtime wolf advocate whose work sits at the intersection of animal behavior, leadership, conservation, and the relationship between humans and the natural world.

For more than four decades, Oliver has lived and worked closely with wolves, experience that has shaped both his approach to animal behavior and his thinking about human leadership. He is the Founder and Executive Director of the Tahoe Wolf Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to wolf conservation, education, advocacy, and science.

Oliver is the author of The Wolf Lover’s Guide to Raising Dogs and Rough Country for Coyotes, and the creator of the TEDx talk Defanging Alpha: What Wolves Can Teach Us About Leadership. His work challenges some of our most persistent assumptions about dominance, hierarchy, dogs, wolves, and what it actually means to lead.

Before turning much of his attention to conservation, writing, and education, Oliver spent decades as an entrepreneur, technology executive, journalist, communications strategist, and executive advisor. His career has included work with startups as well as global companies including Microsoft and Nokia.

Today, his wildlife, animal-behavior, and educational content reaches a large international audience. His work has generated more than 100 million documented views across social and digital platforms, combining an unusual mix of firsthand experience with wolves, storytelling, science, and advocacy.

Whether he is writing, speaking, working with executives, advocating for wildlife, or standing in the middle of a wolf enclosure, the thread running through Oliver’s work is the same: look more carefully at what nature is actually telling us, rather than simply repeating what we have been taught to believe.
