Click. Flash. A memory, instantly captured. Nobody needs to be a professional to understand how photography is one of the greatest arts. Photography is simply whatever the photographer wants it to be. Also, its wide availability makes it extremely relevant to all audiences. Everyone owns a camera, whether it be an actual camera, one on their phone, or even one on their computer. Photography does not need to be a specified concept. Rather, it is something people can enjoy without all of the details. I have always been familiar with the idea of taking pictures as almost all people are in the digital age. However, I began to truly appreciate photography my senior year of high school. The dreaded senior project was approaching and I was told to choose my topic near the end of my junior year. I chose photography, thinking it would be the least painful way to spend over a hundred hours and give four presentations on. Throughout the year, I began to fall in love with my senior project. All of my work dealt with the technical side of the camera for the first few months, but only made me appreciate my work more. I realized all of the ways one can manipulate a picture through angles, lighting, and other aspects. I realized how a simply object could be seen as beautiful through a picture. I realized how different people saw different things through photographs. All of these realizations impacted the way I see the world now. Although I was an amateur at best, I learned to appreciate the skill I learned and how it made me view the world. I have always worked to see situations from different perspectives, to celebrate diversity. Through photography, I learned how to do just that through pictures.
