Determine, Persistence, and Caring
“SERENITY PRAYER”
GOD grant me the SERENITY
To ACCEPT the things I cannot change;
COURAGE to change the things I can;
AND
WISDOM to know the difference
-Reinhold Niebuhr-

My husband and I have one son and two wonderful grandsons who keep us on the edge. There is never a dull moment in the LOPEZ home.

Currently, I am a student at New Mexico State University-Carlsbad. My interest is in the medical field. I have knowledge in phlebotomy, medical terminology, and nursing assistance.

I enjoy my current job as a caregiver. I am employed at J&J Homecare and at Artesia General Hospital. My job experience is working with the elderly and physically disabled. I have been in this line of work since 1988. At the hospital, I work on the Senior Care Unit, Medical and Surgical floors.

My favorite movie is anything my grandchildren watch. That is the only way we can spend time together. I think I have some understanding of video games; if I don’t, I pretend so that I can be included in my grandkids’ circle of friends. When my grandkids introduced me to their friends, I am not grandma; I am introduced as “My Liya”. I guess it is better than being called “granny”.

Around them, I feel young; I’ve even learned how to text, which is a big plus in their book. I am just trying to stay hip in their eyes. In the evening comes the icy hot and the heating pad. But in the long run, it is well worth it!

In my future I see myself doing what I love, which is being part of my son’s, grandchildren, and my husband lives.In addition, I see myself caring for my mother, helping people in need, loving my family, and serving the Lord.
