Olympia Gallou
Data Scientist and Software Engineer in Switzerland
Hello there, my name is Olympia.
I'm from Greece and based in Switzerland.
Recently, I graduated from the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering (Master of Engineering) at the Technical University of Crete (TUC) and my area of expertise lies at the intersection of Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, Signal Processing, and AI. These particular areas of interest include a hands-on experience and use of Python, Matlab, R, Excel, Statistics, Machine Learning techniques, and a data-driven problem-solving mindset.
Coming with deep analytical and strong programming skills, I am a fast learner with a team spirit able to work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment. I have already worked on various research projects as a data analyst and a software engineer. In addition, in the last years, I have developed my project management skills through various courses and an apprenticeship of 160 hours, where I learned cool project management tools and techniques (project coordinator - Women4IT). I also have a keen interest in neuroscience, healthcare technology, and innovation.
Currently, I am volunteering as a team leader in the Empowerment Programme “WOMENTORS” for young women and girls in Greece. The WOMENTORS project is implemented under the Active Citizens Fund program by the Lambrakis Foundation and the organization “Mission Anthropos”. In WOMENTORS seminars, our mission is to provide training, awareness-raising, building self-confidence, expansion of choices, increased access to and control over resources, and actions to transform the structures and institutions that reinforce and perpetuate gender discrimination and inequality.
Even though efforts have been made in recent years to reduce gender inequalities, there is still a long way to go. Female scientific role models need to emerge and stereotypes must be eliminated, especially in IT and STEM fields. Women's empowerment is a mission goal for the next years of my studies and career.
Besides data and AI, I have a passion for music, arts, and traveling.
Always enthusiastic to learn and undertake new challenges in the fields of Data Science, Software Engineering, and Project Management.
