I hail from a raucous Cuban family, so raucous that if you didn’t make a point of being the loudest, well — you didn’t get heard. That lesson has lived with me since, taking me through my journalism studies at the University of Miami, Florida and into my career path as a newspaper graphic designer.

It was during my time in Hong Kong, working as an art director at the Wall Street Journal Asia that I began to tinker and explore photography more fully (just in time for the beginning of the demise of the darkroom). My desire to capture images of time and space were inspired by my travels through Asia as much as it was by my loud-ass family who forced me — gave me no choice, really — but to be LOUD in this world.
