Omer Rains is a former lawyer and politician, and the author of the International Bestselling Book, "Back to the Summit." In 1974 Rains was elected to serve the first of three terms in the California Senate representing most of the coastal area of California between Los Angeles and San Francisco..
Sen. Rains is also an internationally recognized ecologist and humanitarian who has received over 20 national and international awards in recognition of his service. During his tenure in the Senate, he was involved in legislation regarding alternative energy, conservation, protection of children and senior citizens, and for his advancement and promotion of women’s rights. Sen. Rains also had a major role in the enactment of California's container deposit legislation, sometimes called the “Bottle Bill,” and he was instrumental in establishing both Redwood National Park and Channel Islands National Park.
When Rains was 61, he suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm and a stroke, leaving him in critical condition for over a month. In 2012, Mr. Rains wrote a book on his life and chronicling his miraculous recovery from a paralytic state.. "Back to the Summit" became an international bestseller and was translated into several languages. A second edition of the book was published in 2016.
