The University of Toronto is a publicly financed research university that was established in 1827 by a royal charter. Toronto University was originally named as Kings College as it was first founded. The university was hitherto handled by the Church of England, but afterwards became a royal institution and changed its name to the current one of University of Toronto.
The primary campus of the university is located on the grounds surrounding Queen's park, a favorite tourist destination. The other two campuses are far smaller than the most important one and are located in Mississauga and Scarborough.
