I've recently launched Chris Osborn Advisors. This is a dream come true for me, because it allows me to follow my twin passions for learning and development plus marketing. I love the constantly evolving nature of employee training, and the general direction technology, changing behaviors and demographics are taking HR in general and employee learning in particular. Marketing is no different. What works today will not work next week. Most recently, I was the VP of Marketing for BizLibrary, and served functionally as VP of Organizational Strategy. This role provided a great opportunity for me to work at an interesting intersection of thought leadership, strategic thinking, writing and innovation in BOTH employee learning/HR management and training. BizLibrary was definitely at the leading edge of the training technology and online content industries, and was been fun and rewarding to be a part of that. BizLibrary's marketing efforts likewise were at the very leading edge of industry best practices. We worked hard to publish interesting and worthwhile content that HR and L&D professionals might find informative and even provocative. BizLibrary adhered to the principles of in-bound marketing, and we proved conclusively that it works. There isn't a magic formula to effective in-bound marketing. It revolves around producing great content, and I define great content as: content that answers a question a potential customer is asking. Then you have to produce content regularly - like nearly every day!
Over the course of my professional life I've worked hard at being a continuous learner, and I think the idea of learning agility is critical to all of my success. It's fun to learn new things, figure what skills to discard and figure out what important new skills make sense to acquire and master.
