Hey, I'm Isla and I'm an 18 year old animation student from Brisbane. I've been interested in animation since a young age and my goal is to create media in either the cartooning or video game industries. I'm aiming to use queer themes related to gender and sexuality as a main focus in my works and I want to create characters and stories that connect with other LGBTQIA individuals. I'm hoping to specialise in 2d animation, particularly in aspects such as storyboarding and character design.
While growing up, I've been moved and inspired by many animations and cartoons. As a baby, my parents told me I refused to eat unless the Rugrats was on TV. Cartoon Network played a big part in my childhood, especially shows such as the Powerpuff Girls. When I was 7 years old, my sister took me to see Spirited Away in cinemas and it was at that point that I learnt about Studio Ghibli and became inspired by animation as something more than just whimsical shows for kids.
Over the last year I have taken a gap year since graduating and have spend time improving my drawing abilities and finding out more about what I want to achieve. Alongside studying, I am also working part time in hospitality. Over the course of my degree, I am hoping to improve with my drawing and character design, along with my ability to craft interesting plots and stories.
In my spare time I enjoy collecting vinyl and comic books, playing video games, drawing, reading horror manga, and getting angry about social issues.
