Our Village Children's Academy

Our Village Children’s Academy is the story of how one mother’s frustration with the high cost and mediocre quality of early care and education sparked a movement. It is the story about how a group of concerned citizens believed children deserve higher quality, parents desire lower costs and teachers deserve higher pay. It is a story that covers two years of research and development to understand the truth about the problem and find a solution.

OVCA is the story of how child care and early education should be, it’s about a community, it’s about quality, it’s about putting people and principles before profits. It all began in January 2016 with one parent’s frustration at the high cost and mediocre quality of child care and early education. That parent knew the experience of the co-founders in designing custom insurance products and employee benefit plans. She came to us seeking help in developing a plan that could reduce the cost and improve availability and quality of early care and education for herself and other working parents. That parent’s frustration launched the Co-Founders on a 2 year mission (obsession) to understand the problem of high costs – and their determination to find a solution. Then the hard work started. Having identified the problem, now it was time to create a solution. Although Brian and I had extensive business experience none of it was in child care or early education. We had to build a team. We needed a highly experienced team of early childhood educators and business development people from within the corporate Early Childhood Education world.

We made them a part of our own corporate team. But we didn’t stop there. From our business background we knew that we needed a divers multi-disciplinary Founding Team. Reducing parent costs while providing the highest possible quality for children would not be a simple fix – it would require a team of talented and dedicated professionals, and we found them – in the fields of real estate, information technology, human resources, investments, financial management and facilities maintenance. The story of OVCA is really the story of how the difficulties of one person can ignite the passions of two and evolve into an army of village warriors willing to take on an slay the childcare dragon. Why did we do it?
