Ovidio Vazquez
Consultant, Public Speaker, and Father in Nuevo Laredo, México
Hey, I’m Ovidio, a consultant at S.T.C., Cryptielligence, Hardenix and Theridion Networks based in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. I’m passionate about technology, entrepreneurship, reading, travel, and education. As a lifelong learner, I thrive on MOOC platforms like Coursera, edX, and FutureLearn.
My journey started early as a kid, I loved tinkering with the electronics in my toys. It was mind-blowing to see my Star Wars spaceships light up with a custom cluster of LEDs.
Years later, I played basketball while serving in the Pentathlon, a national military academy that instilled in me a deep sense of discipline and a taste for adventure. That drive for action led me to serve as a Civil Protection volunteer for two years, while also diving into outdoor and combat sports, rock climbing, trekking, mountain biking, enduro, boxing, Aikido, Jujitsu, grappling, and Sanda.
My life took a 180 degree turn in 2012 after attending an IT security conference. Realizing how vulnerable both our digital and physical worlds really are was an eye-opener that pushed me to study cybersecurity.
Then came another turning point in 2014: Bitcoin. I started traveling regularly to Monterrey, Mexico, where I co-founded and served as CTO of the Bitcoin Monterrey community. Driven by a mission to educate and spread adoption, we took part in major events like the Texas Bitcoin Conference (Austin, TX, 2015), LaBITconf 2015 (Mexico City), X.25 Hacking Conference 2015 (Hidalgo), IncMTY 2016 (Monterrey), Campus Party 2016 & 2017 (Guadalajara), and Talent Land 2018 (Guadalajara). We also organized meetups at UANL and hosted talks at ITNL, UAT, and UT.
By 2017, I was leading Laredo Hack Garage, a non-profit community in Nuevo Laredo aimed at fostering local tech talent. We built a space where people could learn, showcase, and share skills in a hands-on environment. Through partnerships with private companies, academic institutions, and local government, we hosted a major regional event featuring three main tracks Entrepreneurship, Humanities, and STEM with 40 speakers from across Northeast Mexico and Texas.
Lately, my focus has shifted to research and continuous learning in AI and Machine Learning. I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in AI/ML from the UT Austin McCombs School of Business and am currently completing my pre-master's program in AI & Machine Learning for Business. After experimenting with vibe coding over the past year, I’m now transitioning to building software using a production-grade AI-Native Engineering Stack.
