Øystein Johnsen is the co-inventor of Rolltalk, an aid for severely disabled people with speech impairment. He co-founded the companies IGEL Data and IGEL Kompaniet. Øystein Johnsen was awarded with the Innovation Price by The Norwegian Research Council for the work with Rolltalk (together with his two co-founders). He was part of a team at Brown University in Boston that was able to drive a wheelchair directly from a computer interface implanted in a human brain. Øystein Johnsen received the award for Most Innovative Company from The Norwegian Research Council on behalf of Abilia, for the work on Rolltalk and user involvement in the development process. He took part in the invention of the Memoplanner; a cognitive aid for elderly which is the main unit in the Abilia Senior concept. In April 2012 Abilia received an award together with Vågå municipality for the contribution to the quality of life through support for assisted living with Memoplanner.
