PILAR DEL BARRIO
Santander
Pilar del Barrio is a Professor at IES Foramontanos of Customer Service and Textile Materials and Processes. She has also worked at IES Manuel Gutierrez Aragon teaching Chemical Processes Control, Energy Generation and Wastewater treatment. She has also been a researcher at the Environmental Hydraulics Institute of Cantabria for 5 years. Her research activity was focused on the development and application of new water quality modeling tools and techniques. She graduated in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cantabria in 2008 with Honors, and received the Best Student Prize. She also obtained a degree in Industrial Engineer from the same University in 2011.
Her career began in 2006 when she combined her studies with Fellowships for Junior Researchers, collaborating in several competitive projects related with Chemical Engineering and industrial waste water treatment. In 2008 she obtained the grade of Expert in Innovation Management of the University of Cantabria, and began working as engineer on I+D+i management in the Pharmaceutical Industry (IFC multinational corporation). Finally, she joined the IH Cantabria, where she worked while doing an Official Master's in Environmental Hidric Resources Management.
In June 2010 she obtained a PhD fellowship as a part of the University Professors Training Program (FPU) of the University of Cantabria to develop her Doctoral Thesis entitled "Development and implementation of novel simplified biogeochemical modeling tools for assessing eutrophic and hypertrophic semienclosed coastal systems". Additionally, she collaborates in different projects related with hydrodynamic and water quality modeling, in rivers, estuaries and coastal lagoons.
