Born in 57 in Oslo Norway, joined the navy in 76, moved to Canada and graduated with a bachelor of art in 81. Trekked in the Himalayas in 83. Started with rock carving as a hobby in 84, on his family's 5 acres of rocky granite land in Hvaler, Norway. Extensive travelling in Italy and the Dolomites in the late 90ies. After raising 3 kids, Paal decided in 2008 to further explore his artistic ambitions and has now for 6 years been Bård Breivik's apprentice and assistant.

Paal still does most of his work in Oslo and Hvaler, but spend some time every year in Skåne, Sweden were he challenge the Diabas rock. He also works with wood, metals, clay and carbon and has been studying rock mechanics and the surfacetratment of many different materials.

Paal has been working with fabrics and metal structures in his awning business, and as an experienced sailor and windsurfer he knows the impacts of the elements on borh man and sculptures.
