Good day. My name is Pablo Kamsteeg, aged 24, teacher to be. Check different text blocks for different aspects of me.

Me

Born in Amsterdam in November 1992. Grew up in Leiden. Went to university in Leiden, Amsterdam, Leeds (UK). Love to cycle and hike, play piano and sing (in a choir). Passion for reading. Two sisters, a mum and a dad.

Goal

My main professional goal at this moment is becoming a good teacher. Of students, and of history.

Teaching experience

My previous experiences (teaching, education, work) are visible on my Linkedin-page. Go there by clicking the portfolio link.

Current studies

Leiden University's World Teachers Master Programme teaching history in bilingual/international contexts. My main reason for choosing this programme: why limit yourself with regards to possible future teaching contexts and prospects? Plus: I am a sucker for language. The CLIL approach - combining content and language learning - of this programme has nonetheless proven to be the hardest part of the course so far.

My school

My school: Rijnlands Lyceum Oegstgeest (both in 'regular' Dutch secondary education as well as its bilingual and international department). A great school to learn: I have a very good subject coach.

Strengths/weaknesses

My teaching style can be characterized by a strong focus on the personal relationship with my students, on improvisation, on personal investment and using all of my facilities to prod interest in my subject. Class management is going steady. Learning to plan lessons and manage time takes away most of my time. Applying CLIL is extremely challenging. Self-reflection: not the easiest for me.

What do I want out of the telecollaboration with Valladolid?

Get to know the teaching context in Spain and how teaching has to adapt to its situation. Learning how CLIL and bilingual teaching work out with Spanish instead of Dutch as a starting language.
