Major:Communication Studies, minorin Anthropology and Leadership Studies; Sophomore

Process of deciding on a major:I never really knew what I wanted to do when I grew up, aside from every five-year-old's dream of becoming a ballerina. I was good at a lot of things, but there was never a single subject that particularly stood out to me. I started at K-State as a Marketing major, since both of my parents were business majors, but quickly realized that the business school was not for me. I had quite a few friends who were studying Communication Studies, which I knew little about. After talking with an advisor, I realized that I could do a lot with this major, including pursuing my dream of working in a non-profit (which complemented my Leadership Studies minor nicely).

Why students should come to ACIC:If it were up to me, everyone would have an appointment at ACIC at some point in their college career. It's one of K-State's hidden gems, and too few people know about it! If you don't know what you want to major in, ACIC has a TON of helpful resources, from assessments to books to websites and everything in between. Even if you do know what you want to major in, I think ACIC is a great place to explore your options, whether that's looking into future career goals, or finding a minor that would enhance your major. There's something helpful for everyone at ACIC.

How ACIC has helped us?I had an appointment here during my second semester of freshman year. To be honest, I wanted the career assessment to tell me exactly what to go into so that I wouldn’t have to decide for myself, but what I received was better. Instead of one defined path, I got to explore a lot of different options, from business, to music, to park management! ACIC provided an encouraging, supportive environment that provided me the materials I needed to make a decision.

Career Path:In all honesty, I don't really know what my career path will look like at all. I have a whole range of interets: I have thought about working for Disney, since they are sort of my "dream company"; I have also thought about doing missions in a foreign country. Right now, my projected career path probably has to do with something involving a non-profit organization.

Especially passionate about helping…People. Especially people who cannot help themselves. I always like to root for the underdog, so I am hopeful that I will find a profession that allows me to do that - which is why non-profits seems so promising!
