Pam Omer

A graduate of Michigan State University, Pam Omer holds 25 years of experience in saddle fitting and has worked full-time with Freedom Fittings for the past six years. With a deep love for horses, Pam Omer understands the intricacies of these animals’ bodies and strives to help alleviate pain by properly selecting and designing saddles that fit them comfortably. Pam Omer helps horses to stop rearing, kicking, biting, and bucking by ensuring that their saddles fit the contours of their bodies. She also balances saddles to provide the rider with a comfortable seat. When fitting a saddle, Pam Omer analyzes horses' backs, assessing their conformation and movement and considering previous injuries to determine what they need from a saddle. She also traces and measures the distance between the girth pocket and point of shoulder in relationship to the billet straps and the length of the horse’s back. Pam Omer then selects or builds a saddle to fit a horse in angle, points, gullet, panel, and length and to correspond to the rider's physical needs and preferences as well. In addition to selecting new saddles, Pam Omer also flocks saddles with wool to rebalance and fit them appropriately to each horse. A rider herself, Pam Omer understands the extraordinary impact a correctly-fitting saddle can have on both horse and rider. She has studied both in the United States and abroad and participated in extensive apprenticeships in the art of saddle fitting and adjustment. She has a strong passion for horses and riding and constantly strives to improve her craft and the services she offers. When she is not busy with her work, Pam Omer enjoys spending time outside canoeing, gardening, hiking, and walking on the beach as well as riding and caring for her horses. She belongs to the One Wing Book Club and enjoys reading a wide variety of books, including Blue Shoe, The Classical Rider, The Mammoth Hunters, The Stranger, and The Education of Little Tree. Her business, Freedom Fittings, is based in Williamston, Michigan.
