Paola is a native of the Dominican Republic. She is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in political science and Romance languages at The City College of New York. She is a fierce advocate for the rights of immigrants to access quality education. She is currently a public policy intern with the National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) in Washington D.C. In the past she has interned with council member Gale Brewer, Manhattan, district 6. Also with the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDS), as a National Dream Summer Intern. A program coordinated by the UCLA Labor Center. Paola has worked with La Fuente, an organization that works for the rights of immigrants and workers in underserved communities throughout New York City. There, she coordinated the “Votos y Voces” campaign, an initiative to mobilize new and inactive voters, engaging them to influence the election’s decision-making process. She also with worked in the community movilization department for the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (NLIRH). Her experience with these organizations has taught her the importance of advocating and organizing to bring positive change in underserved communities. Paola’s goals are to further her studies education, politics, public policy and languages. She aspires to become a leader in education and public policy to work towards improving the access to quality education in low income comunities in New York City.
