GENET KEBEDE
Biography of Genet Kebede
Born on December 21, 1965 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Genet Kebede was raised in her native country, where she attended her primary and secondary education.
Due to the strong affiliation she had for designing since childhood, Genet decided to attend courses that will enable her to become professional designer. Her dream started to come into sight when she completed her higher school education, successfully completing the designer course in Buenos Aires at "Universidad de la Moda Italiana" and various other design institutes in Argentina. She also attended advanced design education at The Fashion Academy of Napoli, Italy in early nineties.
The natural gift Genet possesses in design, coupled with the scientific knowledge she acquired during her studies enabled her to realize her childhood dreams and become one of Ethiopia's top designers after the establishment of her firm, under the name "Paradise Fashion" in October 1992.
Having the skills and ability of producing ladies and children dress of any standard for day to day and occasion wear and also home interior ; her aim was to be pioneer specializing in designing hand woven traditional cotton material, combined with colorful hand-made thread designs called "Tibeb" in Amharic Ethiopia's official language.
Genet's elegantly designed ladies' garments, favored by most Ethiopians and many foreigners are the main Reason for Paradise Fashion's growing number of clients and good reputation today. Through her annual fashion shows, held in Addis Ababa, Genet has demonstrated that Ethiopian traditional costumes are colorful and elegant, provided that they are beautifully designed.
In addition, to the local fashion shows, Genet, in the past eleven years has participated in similar shows in African, European and American cities.
Having received great admiration from institutions and clients both locally and abroad, Genet is currently working hard to bring Paradise Fashion's products to the international market, particularly Europe and America.
