Suresh Tamang

* Born in Eastern Nepal; raised Buddhist and my parents always emphasized the inner religious life and the doing of good work (karma- cause and effect cycle) that inspired me to be a social worker.

*Currently a doctoral candidate at the Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work, University of Hawaii at Manoa.

*worked more than 12 years with non-profits (NGOs) in Nepal including implementation of community-based participatory research (CBPR), socio-economic rehabilitation projects, civic education, training and community organization.

* Primary interests are achieving health equity and community engagement, with focus on cultural safety among medically underserved minority and indigenous communities.

* My goal is to explore the knowledge of health and everyday struggles of indigenous communities (emphasis on their socio-cultural aspects) that impact the health, well being and healing.
