I am a person who likes to experience new things in the world. There is just something about being introduced to a new thing that always gives me a rush of energy. There are plenty of reasons why I love new things and there are many reasons why I eventually come to love them.
On a personal level, new things are just another challenge or another adventure. One personal example where I had to deal with something new was in my English 1102 class. In this class I was told to try to expand my writing capabilities. This included giving peer reviews or revising an essay until it was near-perfect. Back in high school, I was never told to do anything of the sort and still managed to earn the A. However, in English 1102, in order for me to earn the A, I had to pour my heart and soul into these new writing methods. Challenge accepted.
After conquering English 1102, I feel like I just climbed the tallest mountain. While I do enjoy new things, that does not necessarily mean that I particularly enjoy the process for completing the new task. In order to do this, I sometimes have to relate to it under my own terms. As a Biology major, this class seemed a bit out of place. But after completing it, I have learned that I can relate my major to writing in a strange way. Specifically being how the body cells, such as the cell membrane, stem cells, and cytoskeleton, relate to parts of an essay, being the thesis statement, writing styles, and one’s personal writing strengths that make an essay complete. By thinking this way, my writing managed to improve over the course of the semester. Looks like I managed to conquer another new challenge!
