Along with leading his own projects, he sits on the boards of various private and public sector entities, including Mayor Rahm Emmanuel's Transition Team. In February 2014, BET Networks and ICON MANN named him one of its 28 Men of Change, a program that honors African-American men who are making a positive impact around the world.
Presently, Pastor Charles Jenkins dedicates himself to The Legacy Project. A believer that the health of a community comes from its children, he developed this initiative to improve many of the problems affecting the economy, education, and health care in the city. Through The Legacy Project, Pastor Charles Jenkins seeks to provide a safe and secure place for young people to learn and lead better lives. It will function as a community health center with after-school programming that will enable people to engage their interests while staying off the streets. Moreover, The Legacy Project will create 400 new jobs and offer STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education. Visitors to LegacyProjectChicago.com can learn how to get involved through volunteerism, and donations.
