I am a professor of criminal justice at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. I received a Ph.D. in criminal justice from Michigan State University. Since 2001, I've been exploring the intersection of teens and technology, with particular focus on cyberbullying, social networking, and sexting. When I am not teaching, I travel throughout the United States, and abroad, training educators, counselors, law enforcement officers, parents, and youth on how to prevent and address the consequences of teen technology misuse. I co-direct the Cyberbullying Research Center and have written five books and quite a few articles for a variety of academic and professional publications on adolescent behaviors online. The first book I co-authored with Sameer Hinduja: “Bullying beyond the Schoolyard: Preventing and Responding to Cyberbullying” was named Educator Book of the Year by ForeWord Reviews. We also just published a new book for teens: "Words Wound: Delete Cyberbullying and Make Kindness Go Viral." A newly revised edition of "Bullying beyond the Schoolyard" will be out in fall 2014.
I've presented at a few cool places, including the White House and the FBI Academy, and have appeared on CNN, NPR, and in the New York Times to discuss issues related to teens use and misuse of technology.
