After earning an associate of applied sciences in advertising art and design at Farmingdale State College in East Farmingdale, New York, Patricia Nugent matriculated at the State University of New York at Old Westbury to obtain a bachelor of science in elementary education. She subsequently found employment with the Huntington Union Free School District in Huntington, New York, as an elementary classroom teacher at the primary and intermediate grades. After receiving her master of science in Reading Education at Dowling College in New York she worked as a reading and Reading Recovery specialist. Patricia Nugent went on to serve as a reading specialist with New York’s Smithtown Central School District. While employed by Smithtown, Ms. Nugent returned to academia to obtain a master of science in educational administration from St. John’s University.

Patricia Nugent’s administrative experience includes tenures as a Reading First coordinator with New York’s South Country Central School District and as an assistant principal with New York’s Riverhead School District in Riverhead. Before entering the field of private program direction, she served as the principal of Briarcliff Elementary and Miller Avenue Elementary in the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District.
