Hello! Patricie Uwase is a dynamic young engineer and leader from Rwanda, where she earned her BS degree in Civil Engineering. In May 2015, Patricie graduated from UC Berkeley with a Master of Science in (Civil) Engineering, and she was honored to give the student commencement address on behalf of the graduating class of 2015 of Berkeley's Engineering masters and doctoral candidates. Her training at the University of California focused on Transportation Engineering and Planning; and while at Berkeley, Patricie also completed a one-year internship with the San Francisco County Transportation Authority. Ms. Uwase is passionate about building and planning sustainable transportation systems, and she currently serves the transport technical advisor to Rwanda’s Minister of Infrastructure.
In the summer of 2015, Patricie took two months off her new job to organize a women’s mentoring & leadership camp, thanks to a $10,000 grant she had won from the Davis Foundation’s Projects for Peace Award Program earlier that year. Not only was the weeklong camp an opportunity to mentor the 100 young women that participated in the camp, equipping them with life skills; it was also an occasion to inspire them to unleash their full potential. Patricie plans to organize a similar camp every year, a network she has dubbed the 100 Women Who Will Impact Rwanda.
Patricie received a full ride scholarship to UC Berkeley from the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program, and she is a valued alumna of the Open A Door Foundation, Generation Rwanda and many other organizations.
