He later worked at a hedge fund in Illinois, specializing in long-short equity. After that, he became a managing partner at PWK Partners in Chicago. He remained there until 2012, when he moved to Florida to start PW Partners.
Patrick studied economics at Wesleyan University in Connecticut and competed in baseball and football. After a back injury ended his sports career, he transferred to Boston College in Massachusetts. He graduated with honors and earned a degree in accountancy. He later earned a Chartered Financial Analyst designation and completed Columbia University's Executive Value Investing Program.
He has held board, chair, and committee roles with BJ's Restaurants, Inc., Town Sports International, Del Taco Restaurants, Inc., and Famous Dave's of America. Nation's Restaurant News named him to its 2015 Power List. He was born in San Diego and raised in Boston by parents who were a school teacher and a naval officer.
