Patrick O'Mullan
Grafton, MA
Patrick O'Mullan has 20 years of experience in industrial research, commercial product development and research staff management. He drove renewable biofuel research initiatives for Qteros as Director of Molecular and Microbiology, and was as a principle scientist for Becton Dickinson and Co, developing their proteomics program.
He has broad research experience spanning the molecular and physiological characterization of micro-organisms and their relevant genes and proteins; biochemical specialties such as enzymology, advanced electrophoresis and mass spectroscopy; and, methods and assay development techniques.
His specific expertise in biochemical and proteomics techniques includes enzymology, chromatography, electrophoresis methods, mass spectroscopy, immunoassays and protein purification. He has microbiological expertise including strain isolation, manipulation and development, microbial physiology and metabolic engineering, and aseptic manufacturing, process and QC methods/validation. He also has expertise in molecular biology and characterization of genes and proteins, PCR and mutagenesis.
Dr. O'Mullan received a B.S. in Biology and a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from Rutgers University. He was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) focusing specifically on anaerobic fermentation of biomass, and completed a second Postdoctoral Fellowship at Rutgers University focused on biochemistry of alcohol dehydrogenase enzymes and associated mutants.
