Patrick Atkinson God's Child
Executive Director in Minneapolis, MN
Patrick Atkinson serves as international executive director of The GOD’S CHILD Project (GCP), a humanitarian organization committed to developing and administering vital services in economically vulnerable countries across the globe. Under his leadership, GCP focuses on initiatives involving community development, education, health, family foster care, and human-rights protection systems.
Patrick Atkinson founded GCP in 1991 after spending seven years working to aid individuals affected by war and human trafficking in Central America. Mr. Atkinson proceeded to grow GCP into Guatemala’s largest program in only a few years, and his success with the organization has continued to the present day. Through GCP he has raised approximately $300 million in donations, which have been used to support countless children and mothers in need around the world.
Patrick Atkinson's life and career have been profiled in The Dream Maker, a 2006 best-selling biography by Monica Hannan. Along with his efforts through GCP, the book details his founding and leadership of the La Asociacion Nuestros Ahijados, a GCP-affiliated nonprofit active in Central America, and the Institute for Trafficked, Exploited & Missing Persons, an international organization he established after witnessing a mass kidnapping in Southeast Africa.
