Olivia Pattee
Student and Dancer in Athens, GA
Not many people can say they danced on the football field when the University of Georgia finally beat Alabama and won their long-awaited National Championship during their first year of college. Actually, only 3 people can flex this for the rest of their life. Yes, I am one of the 3.
Just like every little girl my mom put me in dance classes starting at age 3. Little did she know this would lead her to 12 years of weekends spent at dance competitions, sewing costumes, and putting on fake eyelashes. I started competition dance when I was 6 years old and continued until I graduated high school. I guess you could say I spent some time at my dance studio. I did not want to stop dancing after high school, but I could not keep competing in college. So I found the perfect solution. In April 2021 I made the UGA Georgettes dance team. I am still in shock that I made the team considering I had to leave early to go to a dance competition, strained both my right calf and hamstring the week before and was on very strong antibiotics. One of the best and worst experiences of my life.
After a nearly perfect football season and a National championship, I can confidently say that trying out for the team was the best decision I’ve ever made. Go Dawgs!
