April Scripps
A nationally licensed massage therapist and member of Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals, April believes in combining therapeutic bodywork with assisted stretching, breath work, and relaxation techniques to help her clients find ease and peace in the mind and body. She specializes in sports, deep tissue, Swedish, therapeutic, prenatal/postpartum and aromatherapy massage. She is currently studying orthopedic massage, a research and outcome-based body work system that focuses on assessment techniques and rehabilitation protocols to aid in the healing process.
April has been enjoying the benefits of yoga since 1994 and had been sharing her practice with others for almost 10 years. A Yoga Alliance® Registered Yoga Teacher, April believes that people are drawn to yoga for many different reasons and within each class or private session, students are taught to tailor their practice to their individual needs discovering strength and flexibility they never thought possible. April has a very hands-on style of instruction and incorporates the use of props whenever possible. In the past few years, April has taken a special interest in prenatal & postnatal yoga and enjoys helping women embrace their changing bodies through yoga and movement. She also enjoys teaching children's yoga classes for a local preschool and finds that kids can teach us a lot about being present in the moment. April is currently working on her 500 hour yoga certification and upon completion will be a Certified Yāpana™ Yoga Teacher. This therapeutic style of yoga is a perfect complement to the work April does "off the mat" as a massage therapist.
In addition to her work in the healing arts, April is a certified Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist as well as a certified Metabolic Typing Advisor and she is presently studying to become a licensed Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. She enjoys helping her clients navigate the confusing world of nutrition and helping them to make diet and lifestyle changes that reduce stress and create healing opportunities.
In her past life, April received a BS in Speech Language Pathology & Audiology from Penn State University and completed her MS in education with Old Dominion University. Prior to her career in the healing arts, she worked for 9 years in the field of special education.
