Since I was a young girl living downtown in the city of Atlanta, I yearned for more time with mother nature. The hustle and bustle of the city prevented me from seeing the beauty of lush forests. I was surrounded by nearly identical gray towers of businessmen and appartments which brought me to feel like a helpless animal in a concrete jungle. The only time of freedom I felt was when I retreated to my grandmother's house to explore her garden of figs and her pond of koy. I always looked forward to visits to her house in hopes of seeing a new creature either in the water or wandering about the foliage. My childlike wonder with nature has transferred later into my life.
Since I moved to the suburb of Roswell, GA, I have discovered that life outside of the city is the life for me. The plethora of foliage, flowing river streams, and breathtaking views of the trails I have trecked are what makes me call North Georgia home. I have enjoyed the senic views of the Tallulah Gorge, the foothills of the Appalachian, and many more beautiful places. My appreciation for nature has grown more and more since I have visited these vast locations of pristine landscapes and have spent nights under the stars. Nature has become a very important aspect in my decision in pursuing my major, Environmental Health Science. I not only want to help people but also to spread awareness about the beauty and significance nature plays in their everyday lives.
